The Chillicothe R-II School Board heard from the public Tuesday evening before making a decision to again go out for bids on demolition of repurposing of the old Central School Building.
The board heard from volunteers that appeared on behalf of Hamilton Group, the company that had the bid but could not fulfill the conditions of the contract. Patrice Robertson told the board Hamilton Group is interested in the property and would bid again.
Nathan Zabka, a Chillicothe resident and contractor, expressed interest in the building but admitted it could take four years to complete the project of remodeling for housing.
Perkins Dozing said they were interested in demolition if the board chose to go in that direction.
After the public comment, the board first discussed a motion for demolition only. That motion failed with NO yes votes.
A second motion was made to accept bids for both demolition and repurposing of the building. That discussion included having a reasonable timeline to start and to complete the project. The motion had unanimous approval.
The school board then went into executive session and worked on the specifications required. They expect to go out to bid immediately and possibly vote on their choices at their September meeting.
Bid spec information for demolition or renovation of the building are available at the District office. Bidders are asked to meet with Superintendent Wiebers to receive the spec packet. Bids must be returned to the district office no later than September 12th.
