The formal Retirement Celebration for Chillicothe Fire Chief Darrell Wright was held Thursday afternoon. The event included dignitaries from across the state. Proclamations were presented on behalf of Chillicothe Mayor Teresa Kelly, House and Senate proclamations from Senator Deny Hoskins and Representative Rusty Black, and from the Governor, presented by the State Fire Marshal. Many of those reflected his service to the city and to the firefighting service across the state.
The Chief was also honored by the Livingston County Ambulance Board, Hedrick Medical Center, Lifeflight Eagle, and the Missouri Fire Chiefs Association.
Chief Wright served about 40 years as a firefighter, starting as a pay-by-call in Carrollton and then coming to Chillicothe, where he spent 36 years with the department. Wright says what he will remember most is the people.
Many people spoke about Chief Wright looking after the community. Wright says the community is very important.
Wright says he may be retired from the Fire Department, but he is still active on various boards and continues to work to help Chillicothe.
