A traffic stop by a Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputy resulted in an arrest at the request of the Immigration Authorities. Sheriff Steve Cox says the stop was just after midnight on November 14th at the Mooresville Junction on US 36.
Cox states the stop turned more suspicious when another vehicle also stopped with the van. The driver of the van was from Wichita Kansas and headed to another state. The van was found to have several Hispanic passengers, most had their passport from Mexico but none were legally in the United States. Additional officers from MSHP and Caldwell County came to assist and Zaki was called to the scene because of the numbers of people the one deputy was dealing with.
Cox says no drugs were found in the vehicle but one occupant, 38-year-old Ivan Othoniel Sevilla-Baker of Mexico, was arrested at the request of Homeland Security. He was taken to the Caldwell County Jail at the request of ICE.
The driver of the van, 24-year-old Kevin Gonzalez of Wichita was cited and arrested for alleged No Valid Driver’s License. He was processed and released.
