As the weather turns cold and children begin wearing hats, families will start hearing about and seeing head lice. Lori Murray from the Livingston County Health Center says despite the belief that head lice are a sign of a dirty person, head lice actually prefer a clean host. Murray says they have already heard from one school about a head lice outbreak and remind parents and caregivers how to handle the problem.
She says to remind your children – DON’T share hats, scarves, combs.
Murray says head lice does not require reporting, but your child’s teacher may appreciate letting them know if your child has had lice.
