The Internal Revenue Service is accepting tax returns at any time, but they just announced they will begin processing the returns for the 2019 taxes on January 27th.
The IRS says the deadline to file 2019 tax returns and pay any tax owed is Wednesday, April 15, 2020. They expect to handle more than 150 million individual tax returns this year and most of those will be received and processed before the deadline.
IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig says they “encourage taxpayers to plan ahead and use the tools and information available on IRS.gov.”
The IRS encourages everyone to consider filing electronically and choosing direct deposit. Rettig says “It’s fast, accurate and the best way to get your refund as quickly as possible.”
