The Chillicothe Lady Hornets Basketball team battled back from a difficult first quarter to beat Platte County 54-48 in the opening round of the Kearney Tournament.
Platte County built a 12-points lead early in the second quarter. Chillicothe countered with a 19-0 run in the second quarter and led the rest of the game.
Chillicothe Coach Darren Smith said his team’s tempo was better during the second quarter run.
Chillicothe was led by Hunter Keithley who went 17 of 19 at the free throw line and finished with 22 points. Essie Hicks had 10, Jordan Hibner with 9, Brooke Horton with 8, Jessica Reeter with 3, Ellie Barnett with 2 and playing time for Haley Kidd, Selby Miller, Clara Leamer and Lucy Reeter.
Chillicothe plays Wednesday at 8:00pm against Park Hill in the semi-finals of the tournament. Park Hill beat KC Southeast 66-30.
