The change in the speed limit on Washington Street, from Waples to 1st Street was approved by the Chillicothe City Council Monday night. The vote on the change was three to one, with 3rd Ward Councilman Michael Smith opposed to the change due safety concern of the Fire Department exiting onto Washington Street from Second Street. He says “If we have people now not obeying the 25 mph speed limit, then it is my opinion we will still have the same problem just at a faster speed.”
City Administrator Darrin Chappell says the change increases the speed limit to 35 miles per hour in that area.
Chappell says the Police Department will be enforcing the current limit until the signs are posted.
He says it could take a couple of weeks before the new signs are in place.
