This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Missouri and today the topic is Tornadoes and what you should do in the event of a Tornado Warning.
The National Weather Service issues both Tornado Watches and Tornado Warning. Meteorologist Sara Atkins says a watch means conditions are right.
Atkins says if a Warning is issued, it is time to take action.
If there is a warning, Atkins says you need to take cover and protect yourself.
If you are outside, get inside a sturdy shelter. If you are driving, if there is enough time, drive away from the tornado at a right angle to it’s path of movement. If there is no time, try to find shelter.
