It will be a few weeks, but Zaki is expected to return to service soon. Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox says K-9 Zaki was injured in a use of force incident in March when he was assaulted by the suspect. Zaki has remained off duty since that incident and has made multiple visits to the vet.
Cox says they received very good news this week, that Zaki will be returning to full duty the week of May 24. The vet wants to make sure Zaki is well healed before going full duty again. While off regular duty, Zaki has been receiving permitted training with his handler.
Cox says during Zaki’s absence, the Linn County Sheriff Jeff Henke and his K-9 have been called upon multiple times and they appreciate the teamwork.
