Knox Boxes that have been purchased for use by Livingston County seniors are still available. Using funding from the Livingston County Senior Tax, the Knox Boxes were purchased by Aging In Place Livingston County and are available for loan to those in need. A Knox Box is a secured box that contains a key to allow emergency services personnel to enter a home. The boxes hang on a bracket over the top of the door and emergency services personnel have the key to open them; that allows them to open your door without damaging it.
Chillicothe Fire Chief Eric Reeter says in December they purchased 20 boxes with the grant funding and there are still 12 boxes available.
Seniors 60 years and older that are interested in applying for the loan of a Knox Box should contact the Chillicothe Fire Department at 646-2139. The Knox Boxes are also available for purchase for under $200.
