Taking the time to sit and appreciate the little bit of nature right outside your front door can be calming and give you a different perspective. One of the things you may notice is the birds that are around us throughout the year. Chillicothe City Administrator Darin Chappell has been watching and photographing the birds in our community since moving here. Chappell says there are many birds that have caught his interest.
Chappell says he shoots photos of most of the birds right off his back porch.
He says feeders are a good way to attract the birds.
In addition to the smaller birds you see in town, Chappell also goes to the Conservation Areas in our region to view some of the larger species, including waterfowl, hawks and the Bald Eagle.
The photos of the birds above were all taken by Darin Chappell. They include:
Top – Redheaded Woodpecker, Common Grackle, Red-winged Blackbird, Cedar Waxwing, and Blue Grosbeak
Bottom – Cardinal, Yellow-Rumped Warbler, Meadowlark, Baltimore Oriole, and Northern Flicker
