Beef processing numbers are going up nationwide and the USDA says that could mean lower retail prices soon. The meat counters at the local stores are improving and USDA livestock analyst Shayle Shagam says the processing is near what is normally expected at this time of the year.
Shagam says during May, the wholesale prices increased, but those are starting to fall and that should be reflected on the retail side. The USDA also noted that around the July 4th holiday, the price of grilling meats traditionally goes lower.
