A fire at the Berry Church, north of Galt, did extensive damage Sunday morning. The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department and State Fire Marshal were called to investigate. The church had not been in use for some time.
State Fire Marshal Investigator Adam Crouch says the building was broken into and a fire was set inside. Neighbors or passers-by noticed the fire, called for assistance, and were trying to put out the fire when the fire crews arrived. Crouch says extensive damage was done to the interior of the building.
