Two accidents in Grundy County over the July 4th Holiday Weekend left two passengers injured.
On Saturday, July 4th, at about 11:30 pm, an accident on Route A – 8 miles north of Trenton left a passenger with moderate injuries. State Troopers report 19-year-old Desmond Calton of Trenton was southbound and skidded, striking a deer. His pick-up ran off the left side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned. A passenger, 20-year-old Kyley Culbertson of Trenton had moderate injuries and was taken to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe and later to a hospital in Kansas City. They were NOT wearing safety belts.
Sunday at about 1:45 am, a UTV accident on Yucca Lane, northeast of Chula happened when 19-year-old Caden Ashford of Chula was southbound on private property and his passenger, 18-year-old Jarica Nelson of Chula fell out of the UTV. She was taken to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton for treatment. They were not wearing safety harnesses.
