Two singles and a sacrifice bunt in extra innings helped the Chillicothe Lady Hornets softball team beat Maysville 6 to 5 in eight innings in game one of a doubleheader.
Chillicothe was leading 5 to 2 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning when Maysville hit a three run home run to tie the score. The next batter popped out to send it to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth inning, Chillicothe’s Sophia Luetticke singled to center field. Hope Helton hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher to advance Luetticke to 2nd. Kinlei Boley then singled on a line drive to center field to score Luetticke.
Chillicothe ended the game in the bottom of the eighth with a 1-2-3 inning.
After five scoreless innings Chillicothe scored three in the 6th and two in the 7th but gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh.
At the plate Chillicothe had 18 hits including a Kinlei Boley home run. and three singles. Luetticke had four singles in the game.
Boley took the win in the game, giving up five runs, none of them earned, off nine hits with eight strike outs and no walks.
The Lady Hornets softball team made it a double-header sweep of Maysville, winning the late game 7 to 6 in six innings.
Chillicothe jumped to a 4-0 lead but gave up a five-run fifth inning to Maysville. The Lady Hornets were trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth when Sophia Luetticke singled, stole second and third then scored on a Hope Helton fielder’s choice.
Mika Hibner doubled on a fly ball to center field, scoring Helton for the winning run.
Hibner had two doubles, Kirsten Dunn a double and single, to singles for Luetticke and Mollie Ellis and one for Helton and Brooke Horton.
Halle Rucker and Mollie Ellis combined for the win, allowing six runs, four earned, off seven hits with three strike outs and three walks.
