Two defensive scoring plays by St Pius X was the difference in a Pius 42-27 win over Chillicothe in a Conference football game Friday night.
In the opening drive, Pius forced a fumble. A Pius player picked it up, started running but had his jersey grabbed by a Hornet player. The Pius player lateraled the ball to a teammate who took it down field for a 90 yard fumble return TD.
Pius scored on two passing touchdowns in the first half, then came the second bizarre score. With seconds left in the first half, Chillicothe tried a short pass to the end zone. It was intercepted and returned it 95 yards for a score. Pius led 28-0 at the half.
Chillicothe fought back in the second half. They scored on a 1 yard touchdown and a 14 yard touchdown Gage Leamer run in the 3rd quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter Damarcus Kelow (KEY-low) scored on a two yard run. Pius scored on a 25 yard run but Chillicothe fought back with another Kelow touchdown run. They recovered their on-sides kick off and scored on a Brock Miller 19 yard run. Chillicothe recovered a Pius fumble but came up short on a 4th and 2 from the six yard line. with under two minutes left in the game.
