The Chillicothe Football team was honored at their annual Banquet Sunday night. The Hornets proved to be a team in the classroom as well as the field. The Hornets surpassed a team goal of a 3.0 team GPA by making a team average 3.2 GPA with over 50% of the players earning a 3.3 or higher GPA. The team also met team goals of at least 58 athletes at practice for the entire season and no off-field issues that affected the team.
Trey Tipton won the Shawn Trager Memorial Award and the $1,000 college scholarship, the 16th year it has been given in honor of the late Hornets football player.
Records set this season included carries in a single game average carries per game, average offensive plays per game, fewest punts in a season and fewest opponent punt returns in a season,.
Fullback Damarcus Kelow tied for most carries in a game, and is just the seventh Hornet since 1966 to surpass 1,000 yards rushing in a season as a Junior.
The team graduates 13 seniors but will return several starters next season.
