Accidents In The Area Include Serious, Moderate And Minor Injuries

Two serious injury accidents were investigated by State Troopers in the area Counties over the weekend.

Saturday at about 3:10 am, a single-vehicle accident on US 36 happened as 50-year-old David Pickering of Kansas City was westbound and drove off the north side of the road.  His vehicle overturned, coming to rest on the passenger side.  His passenger, 50-year-old Jacqueline Pickering of Kansas City, had serious injuries and was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment.

A two-vehicle accident in Daviess County on Sunday at about 8:25 am left seven people injured, including five children.  State Troopers report 31-year-old Justin S Phelps of Texas was southbound on Interstate 35, north of Pattonsburg, and ran into the back of a semi that was stopped on the shoulder, driven by a Florida man.  According to the report, Justin Phelps and a 9-year-old child had serious injuries.  They were both taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joe and the child was later taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital.  A 27-year-old passenger and two children had moderate injuries and three other children had minor injuries.  They were all taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment.  The children ranged in age from infant to 9 years old.  All but Justin Phelps were wearing safety belts.

A single-vehicle accident Sunday morning left a Gallatin man with moderate injuries after hitting an animal.  State Troopers report the accident happened about 4:20 am on Highway 13, just north of Hamilton.  According to the report, 34-year-old Cory Rhoads of Gallatin was southbound and he struck a bull in the roadway.  The bull was not seen due to the fog.  Rhoades was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment.  He was wearing a safety belt.
