The Chillicothe Lady Hornets basketball team opened Conference play with a
45 to 39 win at St Joseph Bishop LeBlond. LeBlond scored the first six points of the game and held the lead most of first half.
Chillicothe Coach Darren Smith said his team made some adjustments after the difficult start to the game.
Chillicothe tied the game late in the second quarter thanks to 6 straight free throws. A Jessica Reeter trey with under a minute left gave them the lead. It was answered by LeBlond, which was answered by another Reeter trey for a 27-24 halftime lead. The Lady Hornets wouldn’t trail again in the game. LeBlond fought back to tie the game midway through the fourth quarter but Chillicothe hit six straight free throws, and ended the quarter with two more. The team hit 17 of 20 free throws in the game.
Essie Hicks led the scoring with 17 points, Jessica Reeter with eight, Jolie Bonderer and Brook Horton with six each, Selby Miller with four, Ellie Barnett and Lucy Reeter with two each. Chillicothe improves to 7-1 and LeBlond falls to 9-4.
The Chillicothe Girls Junior Varsity basketball team beat LeBlond 33 to 26. Chillicothe was led by Kirsten Dunn with six points, Izzy Garr and Kinlei Boley with five each, Kayanna Cranmer, Delanie Kieffer and Bre Pithan with four each, Cali Burkhardt with three and Izzie Montgomery with two.
