Girls and Boys State Wrestling

Some female athletes from the MEC and KCHI listening area made history for their schools yesterday by earning medals in the MSHSAA Girls State Wrestling Championships.
KCHI area medalists:
Brookfield 174lbs Zoey Chrisman finished 5th. Their 159lbs entry did not medal.
Carrollton 112lbs Aiva Mayer finished 4th.
Marceline 117lbs Payton Weese finished in 3rd place.
MEC medalists include:
St Joseph Benton 112lbs Lexi Peterson finished 3rd, their 137 lb wrestler did not medal
Cameron had wrestlers at 102, 122 and 174 wrestled but none of them medaled.
St Joseph Lafayette their 107lb entry did not medal.
Lebanon won the girls team championship with 101 points. Lafayette of Wildwood was 2nd and Washington third.
The Boys State Wrestling Championships begin today and run through the 13th in Independence. This year the post season was changed to include District and Sectional tournaments and each weight class at the State Tournament has been cut back to 12 wrestlers per weight class.
Chillicothe is sending four wrestlers to the state tournament this year:
Lane McCoy at 106, Sheldon Rader at 113, Brody Cairns at 152 and Brock Miller at 182.
