A big 3rd inning was the difference in a Platte County 12-10 win over Chillicothe in the opening round of the Pony Express Baseball tournament.
Chillicothe scored three in the bottom of the first and two in the second for a quick 5-0 run.
Platte County scored nine in the third inning. Chillicothe fought back with a three-run fourth to close to within one, but Platte County scored three in the sixth to expand the lead. The Hornets had two in the sixth but that was it.
Platte County had 12 runs off just seven hits.
Chillicothe was led by two hits from Brock Ward, Landon Winder, Brock Miller, and Tucker Wagers with one hit for Gage Leamer and Gabe Hansen.
Landon Winder took the loss with Wyatt Brandsgaard in relief.
Chillicothe plays in the consolation semifinals at 6:30 tonight against Maryville
