The Chillicothe Hornets Baseball team played in their fifth extra innings game of the season, scoring in the top of the ninth to beat Richmond 5-4 in the opening round of the District Tournament.
The Hornets scored twice in the first and once in the second and fourth innings.
Richmond countered with two in the second, one in the fifth and the tying run in the bottom of the seventh with two out. They had a walk and three singles to send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the ninth with two outs, the Hornets had a single from Mason Baxter, Griff Bonderer was hit by a pitch and Brock Ward doubled for the go ahead run.
Gage Leamer, Griff Bonderer and Mason Baxter combined for the win, giving up four runs, three earned, off eight hits, four strike outs and two walks.
At the plate Mason Baxter had a triple and single, Brock Miller and Max Wagers both had triples, Brock Ward had a double and single, Wyatt Brandsgaard had two singles and Landon Winder had a single.
Chillicothe faces top seed Odessa at Odessa today at 4pm in the semifinals.
