Moderate rainfall and the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon will have an effect on the local counties into Saturday. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch beginning tonight, that includes: Carroll, Chariton, Linn and Livingston counties locally and areas to our east and south. National Weather Service Meteorologist Chris Gitro says we could see 3 to 5 inches of rain over the next couple days.
Gitro says the dry conditions we’ve had through the summer and the recent rains are both factors in the possibility of flash flooding.
The Flash Flood Watch will begin late tonight and continue through Saturday night. If you live in or are planning to travel through areas that are prone to flooding, you should be prepared to react quickly to the flooding conditions. The National Weather Service reminds you if roads are flooded – turn around, don’t drown. You can not tell the condition of the road when it is covered with water.
