When you walk around Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium, you see the reminders of past glory. Included on the turf are the words “Bob Fairchild Field”, named after the late Hornets Head Coach who was one of the winningest coaches in Missouri Football History.
A glance at the press box shows the five state championship years, with room to add more.
As the players walk to the locker room, they must pass by a sign board showing the number of wins in Hornets Football history, which ranks the program in the top ten in the state of Missouri, regardless of enrollment size.
That might be a lot of pressure for a new head coach, but former Hornets assistant, and now Head Coach Chad Smith welcomes it.
The Hornet football “Old Boys” will see some familiar things in Coach Smith’s offense.
Smith came to Chillicothe a few years ago as an Assistant Football Coach. He came from Hamilton, where he was an assistant under Dave Fairchild. Chillicothe travels to Moberly Friday evening for the annual Football Jamboree. We will have details on KCHI sports tomorrow.
