The Chillicothe Hornets Soccer team tied Kearney and lost to Excelsior Springs in Saturday morning’s Boys Soccer Jamboree in Excelsior Springs. Each game was 35 minutes long.
Chillicothe battled Kearney to a 1-all tie. Kearney scored eight minutes into the match.
Hornets Coach Tim Cunningham said “After that, we settled in and played really solid.” He stated Gabe Hansen, a junior, was able to score the tying goal with six minutes left in the match.
In the second match, the host Excelsior Springs Tigers won 2 to 0. Cunningham said the match was fairly even for the first 31 minutes.
He said the Hornets had a few scoring chances and the defense played very strong, defending the diverse attack of Excelsior Springs.
However, with about four minutes to play ,a Tigers All-State defender moved into the midfield and scored twice.
Coach Cunningham stated the jamboree was “really good for us”. He said the younger Hornets gained valuable experience and the veteran players were given the opportunity to lead the team. He said the Hornets competed with two very good programs and improved in several areas.
