The Chillicothe Lady Hornets Softball team will play in the State Semi Final game Friday afternoon against Perryville. Lady Hornets Coach Lee Rucker says Perryville is located on the other side of the state.
He says the Perryville pitcher has a style similar to Kirksville and Macon, which Chillicothe has faced this season.
Chillicothe is 29 and 4 on the season. Perryville is 16 and 13 but only five of their wins were against teams that finished with winning records.
The Class 3 Semifinal game from Springfield will begin Friday at 2:00 pm.
The winner will play Saturday at 3:00 pm for the Class 3 Championship and the loser plays for third Thursday night at 7:30 pm.
Chillicothe’s last appearance in the State Softball Semifinals was in 2011, when they finished in Second place. This is the program’s 10th state tournament appearance.
This is Perryville’s fifth state tournament appearance, their first since 2001 and first ever semifinal game.
Chillicothe Principal and Athletic Director Dan Nagle says MSHSAA is expecting likely delays and adjustments. Class 4 and 5 games today (Thursday) have been postponed due to wet fields in Springfield. Those delays may alter the game dates and start times for Friday.
