Aurora or Northern Lights may be visible this Saturday in Missouri. National Weather Service Meteorologist Chris Gitro says the sun erupted a coronal mass ejection, two major M Class and one X Class flares Thursday.
The effects of this geomagnetic storm are expected to reach earth Saturday evening.
The forecast on Saturday night is Partly Cloudy, which could allow the possibility of viewing the aurora. Current predictions indicate northern Missouri, down to near our area, will be able to see the aurora.
To view the northern lights, you will want to get to an area with as little light pollution as possible. Areas out of town and on top of hills will be best. Watch to the north and you may see what appears as a green curtain fluctuates in intensity.
Please do not trespass on other property and don’t block roads.
