A two-vehicle accident Monday evening on US 65 in Mercer County took the life of a Liberty man and left an Iowa man with serious injuries. State Troopers report the accident happened at about 5:40 pm, just north of Mercer, as 64-year-old Gary Sexton of Liberty was northbound on US 65, without headlights, and had crossed into the southbound lane. Sexton’s pick-up struck a southbound vehicle and trailer driven by 71-year-old Merlin N Hall of State Center, Iowa. Hall’s vehicle went off the road and overturned.
Sexton was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the accident. Hall was taken to Wayne County Hospital in Iowa for treatment of serious injuries.
