Thanksgiving plans change, and you find YOU are cooking the turkey, but it’s still frozen and the meal is served is just a few hours! Thawing in the fridge takes days and for a 12 pounds bird, it will take 6 hours using the cold water method. Marianne Gravely from the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline says don’t panic!
For that 12 pound bird, roasting normally takes about 3 hours. For the frozen bird, ad another 90 minutes for a total of 4 1/2 hours of cooking time.
This is for ROASTING a turkey. NEVER try to deep fry a frozen turkey, you will have major problems and it could result in burns or even a fire.
