The Chillicothe Boys Varsity basketball team used a strong second quarter and good free throw shooting to open their Midland Empire Conference season with a 45-40 win at St Joseph Bishop LeBlond.
The Hornets trailed 12-5 after the first quarter but bounced back to lead 23-18 at halftime. Both teams scored 9 points in the third quarter and 13 points in the fourth quarter.
The Free Throw line was kind to the Hornets, which sank 18 of 22 free throws in the game including 8 of 12 in the 4th quarter, compared to LeBlond’s 6 of 9 for the entire game.
Coach Tim Cool said it was a big win for his team
The Hornets were paced by Griff Bonderer with 14 points, Jackson Trout with 10, Landon Winder and Wyatt Brandsgaard each with eight points, James Mathew with five and playing time for Chace Corbin.
The Hornets are now 6-3 overall and 1-0 in MEC play. LeBlond is 7-5 overall.
Bishop LeBlond won the first two games of the night. They won the JV game 49 to 29. Chillicothe JV was led by Quenten Midgyett with 10, Milo Costner with 6, Ashton Baker and Carson Samm each with 4, Ricky Wilson with 3 and Aarieon Hudson with 2.
The Bishop LeBlond C-Team won 29 to 27 after leading at half time 20 to 8.
For the Hornets, Langston Johnson had 11, Quenten Midgyett with 6, Ashton Baker with 5 Kenyen Gannan with 3 and Aarieon Hudson with 2.
