Monday, January 17th, is Martin Luther King Day. For many in government, banking, and other businesses it is a day off. Maggie Moore from the Lillian DesMaries Youth Library says it is one of VERY few named holidays for a person that was not a public office holder.
It wasn’t until 17 years later that all 50 states recognized Martin Luther King Day as a holiday.
Moores says this is more than just a day off work or school, but is a day to provide service to our communities.
She says the Youth Library has many resources to find out more about Martin Luther King.
The Livingston county libraries are closed Monday in honor of the holiday.
