The USDA’s Conservation Reserve Program or CRP began in 1985 in an effort to reduce erosion on marginal land. The USDA’s Farm Service Agency, who oversees the program, says the maximum acre limit is 25 million acres. The program is currently at 22 million. In addition to erosion control, the program also seeks to mitigate climate change. Zach Ducheneaux, the Administrator of USDA’s Farm Service Agency, says sign-up begins soon.
Ducheneaus says the USDA office continues to be cautious about the ongoing COVID concerns.
