A program designed to reduce erosion on marginal land was started in 1985. The USDA’s Conservation Reserve Program or CRP is overseen by the USDA’s Farm Service Agency. The FSA says the maximum acre limit is 25 million acres and the program is currently at 22 million acres. In addition to erosion control, the program also seeks to mitigate climate change. Zach Ducheneaux, the Administrator of USDA’s Farm Service Agency, says sign-up is already underway for some programs.
Ducheneaus says the USDA office continues to be cautious about the ongoing COVID concerns.
