The final day of Severe Weather Awareness Week is for Flooding. There are a couple of types of flooding we deal with in the area, Flash Flooding and River Flooding. Meteorologist Pamela Pietrycha says Flash Flooding can happen quickly and can hide the dangers we would face.
The second type of flooding is River Flooding, and this occurs when we have had heavy rains or prolonged rains that have caused the area rivers to rise. This can also happen if there was heavy rain upstream from the location.
Pietrycha says the dangers of flooding are often hidden below a calm surface.
This is why we often hear… If you see flooded roads, turn around, don’t drown.
