St Joseph Benton’s Softball team scored eight runs in the first two innings and beat Chillicothe 16 to 7. After a three run first inning, Benton fired a grand slam home run as part of a five runs second inning. Chillicothe tried to battle back but Benton’s bats were relentless with 17 hits in the game.
Lady Hornets Coach Mike Jones stated his team is making too many mistakes, including five errors in this game.
On Offense, Chillicothe had their own home run from Kennedy Corzette. Libby Adkins and Abby Jones both had a double and single. Mica Hibner went three-for-three, Sophia Luetticke had two singles with Jordan Hibner, Kiley Kirkpatrick and Brooke Horton picking up one hit each.
In the circle, Hallie Rucker went the first three innings and Mollie Ellis the final three innings. The two combined to allow 16 runs, 13 earned, off 17 hits with five strike outs and just three walks.
Chillicothe will host their own Softball tournament on Saturday at Danner Park with two pools of four teams each. Chillicothe will play Macon at 8:00am, Excelsior Springs at 9:45 and North Platte at 11:30am. Pool B has Hamilton, Kirksville, Putnam County and Richmond.
Second, Third and Fourth place teams will play at 3:00pm. The championship game will be 4:45.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
