Spring Turkey Hunters in Missouri harvested 36,251 birds this year, an increase of 5% from last year’s harvest, but still down about 7% from the average spring harvest. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) says the top harvest was in Franklin County with 798 birds harvested.
In the local counties, the harvest numbers include:
Livingston………… 385
Caldwell…………… 230
Carroll……………… 317
Chariton…………… 325
Daviess……………. 441
Grundy……………. 325
Linn………………… 411
Sullivan……………. 505
MDC Turkey Biologist, Reina Tyl says “Our annual wild turkey brood survey indicates that, at the statewide level, hens have been producing one or fewer poults, on average, for the past 6 years. The cumulative effect of relatively poor production the last several years has been fewer turkeys and more challenging spring turkey hunting conditions.”
The MDC also reported there were two self-inflicted firearm-related hunting incidents, one fatal, reported to MDC during the 2022 spring hunt. There were no shooter-victim hunting incidents reported.
