On to Hornets boys tennis who hosted Excelsior Springs in the semi-finals on the team-district tournament. A trip to the district championship hung in the balance.
In doubles play, Chillicothe duos swept the Tigers with wins from Emmett Young and Gabe Peterson 8-1, Chace Corbin and Josh Adams, 8-4, as well as Jackson Reeter and Jadon Collins 8-5.
Singles play was more tightly contested proved by Chace Corbin’s win in the top singles match 2-6, 6-3 (13-11) over Carter Pitts. In the number two singles match, Gabe Peterson conquered his opponent 6-4, 5-3.
Emmett Young also went down to the wire in his number three singles match winning 7-6, (7-4) 1-0. Josh Adams and Jadon Collins also picked up victories in singles play.
The Hornets swept the Tigers back to Excelsior Springs, 5-0, and have a now set themselves up for a date with Trenton High School in the District Final on Wednesday night.
Chillicothe and Trenton split their meetings this season with both of them ending in a 5-4 score.
