NEVADA – Ryan Sell tossed nearly seven no-hit innings for Chillicothe and timely hitting late pushed the Mudcats to a 3-0 shutout win over Nevada at Lyons Stadium Sunday.
Sell was dazzling, striking out five and walking three, but hit his pitch limit after issuing his third walk with two out in the seventh. Mudcat manager Tyler Hudlow replaced him with Steven Ricketts, who allowed a hit to Grant Nokes, but then retired the next four to keep the Griffons scoreless.
Brent Hoover was outstanding for Nevada in his start, which also lasted almost seven innings. He allowed the go-ahead RBI single to Ryan Mittelman in the seventh inning, and that’s all Chillicothe would need.
Deejay Seelbach loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning with a single and two walks but struck out the side to earn his first save of the season.
Nevada mustered only two hits and was shut out for the first time this year.
The Mudcats earned their second road win of the year and improved to 7-12 overall.
The Mudcats continue their four-game road trip Monday when they travel to Sedalia to take on the Bombers. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. C.T.
