Strobel tosses CG, Griffons down Mudcats 6-4

CHILLICOTHE – Jacob Strobel tossed a complete game Saturday, Caleb Chance ripped a late RBI single, and Nevada took down Chillicothe 6-4 at Shaffer Park.

Strobel’s only challenging inning was the third, where he gave up four hits and four runs. Including the final out of that inning, Strobel went on to retire 19 of the last 20 Mudcat hitters the rest of the way.

The Mudcats led 4-2 with two out in the top of the sixth, but Luke Piazza yanked a two-run double down the right field line to tie the game.

In the eighth, with the game still tied, Caleb Chance hit a line drive to left with Mo De León at third, scoring what would be the game-winning run. Chance went 4-for-6 in the contest.

Will Loesch, who was battling an illness, started on the bump for the Mudcats, but only lasted one out into the fourth. He redeemed himself after allowing 14 hits in his last start against Nevada, giving up just one earned run.

The only Mudcat to record multiple hits was Braedyn Brewer, who went 2-for-4. His seventh-inning single was the only baserunner the Mudcats mustered past the third inning.

Chillicothe falls to 9-14 overall on the season.

The Mudcats hit the road Sunday to take on the St. Joseph Mustangs. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. C.T.
