JOPLIN – Matt Campbell launched a two-run homer in the sixth inning, lifting Joplin to a third straight victory over Chillicothe 5-1 Wednesday at Joe Becker Stadium.
Campbell’s homer drove in the only two runs Mudcat starter Ryan Sell allowed, as he tallied another five-inning quality start and struck out six.
Ethan Sally was dazzling for Joplin, striking out a season-high ten over six innings of work, and picked up the win. The only run the Mudcats got came in the first inning on a double steal with runners at first and third, and an errant throw from Outlaw catcher Korrey Siracusa scored Elijah Maris.
Caden Bressler picked up a nine-out save for Joplin, meandering through three innings of scoreless ball in relief. The Mudcats threatened in each of the last three innings but couldn’t cash in on any of their chances.
Elian Guzman notched three of the eight Mudcat hits on the night, which was a season high for him.
Chillicothe loses its third straight and falls to 10-19 overall on the season.
The Mudcats finish their road trip Thursday when they travel to Jefferson City. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. C.T.
