Lee Rucker and company were heading into a season where they were looking to build upon a 30-5 record and a State Runner-Up finish from a year ago.
The Hornets were able to get that campaign off to a hot start in the Greater Kansas City Tournament on Friday.
Chillicothe defeated Truman 4-0 in their first outing of the season. Kinlei Boley dominated on the mound, throwing eight strikeouts with no walks.
In game two, the Hornets took down Raytown 8-3. Hadley Beemer got the win in the second clash of the day.
Saturday will bring day two action of the tournament. The Hornets’ two wins qualified them for the gold bracket, where they will play Lee’s Summit West in the first round of bracket play at Noon.
If the Hornets continue to win, the semifinals would be at 1:45 pm on Saturday and the Championship would be at 5:15 pm.
