The Chillicothe High School Football team got back on the winning track on Friday night with a 42-0 victory over the Cameron Dragons on Homecoming night.
The Dragons started the game with some trickery, recovering a surprise onside kick on the opening kickoff. Penalties derailed their opening drive though, and Chillicothe forced them to punt.
The Hornets got the scoring started late in the first quarter on a shifty 41-yard touchdown run from sophomore running back Silas Midgyett. Brock Miller punched in a 5-yard touchdown early in the second quarter extending Chillicothe’s lead to 14-0.
The passing game shined for the Hornets on the final drive of the first half. Senior quarterback Griff Bonderer found Ruger Cox streaking down the middle of the field setting up a 25-yard touchdown pass to Max Wagers to extend their lead to 20-0 at the half.
The second half was more consistency on the offensive side for Chillicothe. Cayden Potter tacked on six with a 4-yard touchdown run. Then Max Wagers caught a 5-yard pop-pass from Bonderer for his second touchdown of the night to extend the lead to 34-0.
Silas Midgyett put the final nail in the coffin with a miraculous 91-yard touchdown run, breaking tackles left and right and putting on the jets to bring the final score to 42-0.
The Chillicothe defense played an extremely stout game getting their first shutout of the season.
The Hornets move to 2-2 on the season, and they are back in action next Friday when they travel to St. Pius X to take on the Warriors at 7 pm.
