The Chillicothe Middle School Boys Basketball teams hosted Kirksville Thursday night. The A-Team Hornets won 32-23. Griff Bonderer scored 12 points and Wyatt Brandsgaard scored 11 to lead Chillicothe.
Cayden Potter scored 5, Landon Winder 2 and Isaiah Sprong with 2. Getting playing time were Sam Reeter, Trent Keith and Gabe Hansen.
Coach Doug French thought his team played extremely well for their first game. He said he is pleased with the effort and the game knowledge of the boys.
The B-Team 8th Grade Hornets struggled in the first quarter and lost 41-22. Isaiah Sprong led Chillicothe with 8 points. Clayton Savage had 4, Carson Steele, Gabe Hansen, Landon Winder and Sam Reeter had two each with playing time for Trent Keith.
Coach French stated the team was a little short handed with illness and some ineligible players.
The Chillicothe 8th Grade Girls A-team opened their season with a 36-24 win over Kirksville. Cali Burkhardt had 15 points for CMS, Bre Pithan and Kirsten Dunn had six each, Kinlei Boley with 3 and Aliyah Briner with 2.
Getting playing time were Hope Helton, Lilly Basinger and Lainie Epperson.
The B-Team girls won 10-9. Emma Gillan had 4 points, Hope Helton, Lilly Basinger and Katelyn Fleener each with 2. Receiving playing time were Maddy Ellis and Lanie Epperson.
