The Chillicothe Hornets track and field team performed extremely well in the Class 3 Sectional meet at Paris High School. The Hornets qualified nine boys in seven events and seven girls in eight events for the state finals this weekend.
For the boys, Silas Midgyett won the 100 meter dash with an 11.19. In the 1600, Cain Evans claimed the final qualifying spot in 4th with a 4:33. In the field events, Bo Smith qualified in both the shot put and discus. In the discus, Smith was 3rd with a 134’4″and 4th in shot put with a 47’4″. Three boys Hornets relay teams qualified for state. The 4 x 100 team of Alijah Hibner, Silas Midgyett, Brennan Fitzpatrick and Jacob Adams ran 4th. The Hornets finished 3rd in the 4 x 400 with Jonathan Sanchez, Luke Thompson, Hibner and Fitzpatrick, while also running 3rd in the 4 x 800 with Sanchez, Laik Graham, Evans and Thompson.
The Lady Hornets earned a gold medal with their 4 x 800 team at the sectional, Kayanna Cranmer, Lyla Beetsma, Jolie Bonderer and Lydia Bonderer. Lydia also took home 1st place individually in the 800 as the freshman finished with a final time of 2:22. The 4 x 400 team also qualified with a 4th place finish through Beetsma, Anna Pfaff, Lydia Bonderer, and Cranmer. Kayanna also qualified to compete individually in state in the 400 finishing 3rd with a 1:01. Jolie Bonderer placed 4th in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:28. The Chillicothe Lady Hornets also had three field qualifiers, Sadie Midgyett in discus, 3rd place with a throw of 108’5″, Emerson Staton in shot put finished 4th with a 34’6″ throw, and Beetsma was 4th in the triple jump, landing at 34’3″.
The Chillicothe track and field athletes who qualified will compete in the Class 3 State Championship this weekend at Jefferson City High School on Friday and Saturday. Best of luck Hornets!
