The Chillicothe Mudcats lost a second straight game in two straight days to the Sedalia Bombers, this time losing at home on Sunday night at Shaffer Park in a high scoring affair that finished 15-11 in the Bombers’ favor.
The Mudcats and Bombers both scored one run each in the second inning, before the Bombers put up seven runs in the 3rd inning on Mudcats reliever Ryoma Tada. Tada was rushed into action after an elbow injury ended the day for the Mudcats starter Sungbin Park, who only made it through two innings of work.
Sedalia would score three more runs in the sixth to take a 10-run lead, before RBI base hits from Peyton Becker and Tanner Sears cut the score to 11-3 going into the seventh.
Sedalia scored three runs in the seventh, and the Mudcats were in danger of losing via a mercy rule. But, with two outs, and a full count, leadoff hitter Peyton Becker hit a RBI triple with the bases loaded, scoring three to make the game a 14-6 score.
Sedalia would score once in the 8th to push their lead to nine runs, but the Mudcats scored four times in the bottom half on three hits, as the first five Chillicothe runners reached in the inning.
That made things interesting in the ninth. Chillicothe would score one run in the bottom of the ninth to make it a four run game, and had the bases loaded with 2 outs. The tying run, Carlos Negron, came to the plate, but he struck out swinging, and another late comeback attempt for the Mudcats fell short.
While the Mudcats did lose another high scoring game, there were some impressive offensive performances by experienced Mudacts in Tanner Sears and Peyton Becker. Sears went 4-4 and reached base all six times he came up to hit, walking in his other two plate appearances. Becker had a 2-4 day where he drove in four of the Mudcats’ runs.
Chillicothe has now lost three straight games after winning three straight games to start their season, making their record 3-3.
