Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox announced his retirement effective immediately. Cox says he is closing out his office and will be on medical leave through August 31st. His official retirement begins on September 1st.
Steve Cox spent his entire law enforcement career serving the local residents. Cox says he began in 1985 as a Deputy, Dispatcher, and Detention Officer for the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. After three years he moved to the Chillicothe Police Department and worked his way up from patrolman to second in command. In 2000 he was elected Sheriff and started that position in 2001.

He says in his time as Sheriff, there have been many changes for the department.
No overtime or holiday pay and deputies provided their own vehicle.
Cox says he is proud of the law enforcement tax passed by the voters that has helped to make changes in the department.
Sheriff Cox says he is leaving the Department in good hands as Dustin Woelfle is unopposed in the upcoming elections. He says he will assist Woelfle with the transition to Sheriff over the next couple of months.
