A member of the Lillian DesMarias Youth Library staff has been selected to be part of the 2024-2025 Association of Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) Leadership Institute. Maggie Moore is selected as one of 30 library professionals from across the United States and Canada who will engage in residential, online, and conference experiences.
The 18-month program is meant to deepen their understanding of and commitment to professional values while they gain practical managerial skills. The ARSL’s Leadership Institute is unique as its students are selected from only small and/or rural libraries and are often considered “accidental librarians,” who have no formal education in librarianship and few local resources for library-specific professional development.
Key priorities for this institute are to develop strong rural and small library leaders and give them tools to strengthen the communities they serve, while empowering them to add their voices to national conversations about libraries.
