CHS Girls Tennis Battle Through Platte County Tourney, Morgan Brings Home a Medal

On a crisp autumn morning, the CHS girls tennis team visited Platte County High School for their annual Lady Pirate Tennis Tournament hosted by Coach and former CHS alum Zach Keith. This contest hosts several of the largest and strongest schools in the KC Metro Area including Liberty North, Park Hill South, RayPec, Platte County, St. Joe Central, Warrensburg, Savannah, and Chillicothe. Coach Chambers chooses to return to this high-quality event each year because it is a great way for her team to battle against tough competition that does not affect standings for conference or district, to build stamina with six matches in one day for every athlete, and to see opponents that do not impact conference or district results.

Coaches Chambers and Pyrtle both saw lots of growth and development from their girls throughout the day by getting so many reps in, and they were proud of the very toughly fought matches Keonnia Morgan played in her #2 bracket to earn herself a medal including a rematch of her head-to-head against Savannah’s #2 just two days earlier when the match did not go Morgan’s way. They were also excited to bring three new varsity subs to introduce them to varsity-level play since the team will graduate five of their top six starters this year. Finally, after the tough summer these players had without courts, the team was glad to see everyone managed at least one win against such highly competitive schools.

Throughout the morning, every lady hornet competed in three singles matches at their respective rank. Results were as follows:

#1 Singles — senior Micah Crowe — lost to Platte County, lost to Park Hill South, beat Warrensburg — 7th place

#2 Singles — senior Keonnia Morgan — beat RayPec, lost to Platte County, beat Savannah — 3rd place

#3 Singles — senior Bianca Clark — lost to Liberty North, lost to Warrensburg, lost to RayPec — 8th place

#4 Singles — senior Keeley Shira — beat Platte County, lost to Park Hill South, lost to Warrensburg — 4th place

#5 Singles — junior Rian Mathews — lost to RayPec, lost to Warrensburg, beat Savannah — 7th place

#6 Singles — sophomore Lexi Lybarger — lost to St. Joe Central, beat Warrensburg, lost to Savannah — 6th place

Then, in the afternoon, the girls paired up to compete in three doubles matches at their respective rank. Results were as follows:
