Lady Hornets Softball Takes Trophy At Chillicothe Tournament

The Lady Hornets softball team hosted a field of 8 teams in the Chillicothe Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Hornets played Marceline in the first round and it was a close competitive pitchers duel. Chillicothe found the breakthrough in the 5th inning scoring twice and added another two in the 6th to win 4-0. Offensively Tatum Palmer, Tori Stoner, Ellie Acree and Hayden Hansen had big games, each contributing two hits apiece and an RBI. Pitching, Landry Marsh was pivotal in the shutout, striking out 9 batters and allowing just 4 hits across the 7 innings.

The win moved the Lady Hornets into the semifinals where they faced Macon who knocked off Lawson in their opening game. Chillicothe had to come from behind against the Tigers, trailing 4-2 at the end of the 2nd inning. The game was all tied up going into the 6th but then Chillicothe connected for four runs in the frame. Tori Stoner, Landry Marsh and Ellie Acree all had multiple RBIs in the contest and the Hornets held on for an 8-5 win. In the circle for Chillicothe was predominately Ali Probasco, in 4 innings she allowed just one run on three hits.

The Lady Hornets advanced into the finals against Holden who had beaten Savannah and Kirksville earlier in the day. Holden got on the board in the top of the first, but then Chillicothe cruised the rest of the way to a dominant 9-1 win to claim the Chillicothe Tournament championship. Landry Marsh got the win in the circle while her, Stoner and Acree all had multiple hits in the win.

Congratulations to Coach Rucker and the Lady Hornets softball team on the Tournament win! Chillicothe softball is now 10-2 on the season.
