On Monday night, the lady hornets tennis team fell to 5-9 in team duals this season after losing to the Marshall lady owls on their senior night. With Chillicothe’s #3 & #4 out for the night, most of the Chilli squad played above their rank. The night started out strong with two wins in doubles play. Number two doubles pair Jasmine McLean and Summer Gatson killed it at the net throughout their entire match with the opposing coach even commenting on their net strength. The same was true on the number three doubles court with Lydia Bonderer and Lexy Smith making their varsity dual debut as a pair. They handedly beat veteran players in that match thanks to their extreme hustle and constant communication. However, the singles matches went almost entirely Marshall’s way with five wins due to their brilliant baseline play, never letting a ball get past them. Coach Chambers said that her singles athletes played great matches, but Marshall was simply relentless in their deep court coverage. She was especially proud of a great win from junior Rian Mathews in a tough #6 singles match. Results were as follows:
#1 Doubles — Micah Crowe & Keonnia Morgan lost to Avery Evans & Dianna Escarate 1-8
#2 Doubles — McLean and Gatson beat Kaylen Alvarez & Megan Miles 8-6
#3 Doubles — Bonderer & Smith beat Kellin Fann & Sofie Messing 8-1
#1 Singles — Crowe lost to Evans 1-8
#2 Singles — Morgan lost to Escarate 5-8
#3 Singles — McLean lost to Alvarez 5-8
